Torfaen - Pre 1570

Four hundred years ago, before industrialisation, the valley was almost entirely agricultural. The landscape was made of small farmsteads scattered on the valley sides and small groups of houses clustered near watermills and churches. The valley bottom was covered by woods and copses, some of which still survive.
