Thomas Barker - His return to England

The following two years were a time of grief for Thomas. His father died in June 1793, and the next year his patron, Charles Spackman was made bankrupt and Spackman's daughter, who Thomas had hoped to marry, died from a fever. Thomas returned to England via German on hearing of his father's death and for the following five years was based in London. He become an established figure in the capital's artistic life (leading to him to become known as Barker of Bath) and commercially successful, holding exhibitions and showing at the Royal Academy.
